Joan Martorell owned the Finca Güell, west of Barcelona. He commissioned Antoni Gaudí; who knew about previous projects, the construction plans for the lodge pavilions and the stables. Later he commissioned the construction of a new home, the Palau Güell.
The Catalan modernism invaded the city with grandiose and spectacular monuments; and in the year 1900, Gaudí designed the project of Park Güell as a private space for aristocrats. Over the years, the project financed by Eusebi Güell was unsuccessful and decided to open the park to the public in 1926.
